Chambered Alaia

Maybe the biggest project I ever did. Most importantly, it was the realization of life long dream: building a surfcraft myself.

What you may not know is that this one was not supposed to be the first one. I started on another project (7'0" retro single fin, 70's themed to match the guitar and the skateboard) but as I went to put the blank together, some of the boards were warped and twisted so I clamp it all together and set aside to dry hoping it would help.... I haven't yet unclamped it bit it has been over 6 months, if that does not work, I do not know what will...

Anyway, when doing a chambered board, depending on the size of your original boards, you re left with lots of off cuts and in my case I had many of descent length so I decided to buil an Alaia with those.

Why? because it is cool;-) and because I thought it would give me training for the other board with little risk. I already had and rode quite a bit a foamie Alaia (Albacore from GSI, designed by Tom Weggener) which I love (until I snapped it in half) so why not !

The video below highlights the main building steps along with the test ride. In the build video, first voice over ever for me, I tried to highlights all the issues and key points, hope this helps.
